Sierra Wireless MC8780 3G/NextG Module with HSUPA available in Australia/NZ from M2M Connectivity
M2M Connectivity Pty Ltd , Sierra Wireless’s Australian and New Zealand distributor for embedded modules, today announced the availability of the new MC8780 3G/NextG PCI Express Mini Card module for developers to start integrating into applications.
The MC8780 provides HSUPA offering uplink data rates of up to 2.0 Mbps and downlink data rates to 7.2 Mbps.
The MC8780 module offer connectivity to all three HSPA/UMTS frequency bands (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) and all four EDGE/GPRS bands (850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz) used worldwide, allowing seamless global roaming on the best available network.
The MC8780 also offers receive diversity for improved fringe area performance. The improvement in uplink speed creates opportunities for a variety of new applications around wireless routing and client-generated content such as remote video transmission for security monitoring.
For developers, the PCI module format provides a quick and low cost way to keep products up-to-date. Developers working with the current MC8775 HSDPA module (as well as the CDMA Rev A MC5725 module) can simply replace the module with the MC8780 with minimal redevelopment effort to have an HSUPA application.
HSUPA is being launched being launched progressively on 3G networks around the world, and in Australia and New Zealand we expect the first networks to switch on HSUPA within the next 2-3 months.
For developers now is the time to start work on HSUPA applications to be ready to launch these as the operators launch the services.
Key Features of MC8780 include:
- Interchangeable with current modules (MC8775, MC5725)
- World class product performance, quality and reliability
- Solid documentation, tool development and consultation services
- Solid support for device integration and verification
- Comprehensive SDK and enabling software
- Flexible driver strategy with NDIS support and non-NDIS abilities
The mc8780 is now commercially available. For more information please contact M2M Connectivity.
