The laser welding process can be performed very quickly (less than a second) and does not scar or blemish the welding surface. In fact, by adjusting the laser welder’s settings, a smooth, near polished finish can be achieved.
Since very little heat is generated at the weld point, users can easily weld 0.10mm away from the most intricate jewellery pieces, including heat-sensitive stones.
Laser welders can be used to fill porosity, re-tip, repair bezel settings, repair/resize rings and bracelets, without removing stones, as well as correct manufacturing defects.
Virtually all alloys can be laser welded, including platinum, palladium, gold, silver, titanium, stainless steel and more. Laser Welding is very precise and clean, and does not use any solders or fluxes.
Laser welders available from M2 lasers
In the last 3 years M2 Laser has installed more than 50 laser welders in Australia. They offer a range of units, from the small affordable bench-top iWeld laser welder to the powerful 7000 Series Workstation.
M2 Lasers can offer the exclusive EZ-View Cobra Scope. They also pride themselves on providing quality jewellery laser welding training at clients’ premises, and ongoing local support.
Into the future
During the last few years, the price of many laser welding systems has decreased, making them increasingly affordable to jewellery manufacturers, small design studios and repair shops.
Frequently, those who have purchased a laser welder find that the time, labour, flexibility and material savings realised far outweigh the original purchase price.
