Belvoir St Theatre in Surry Hills, Sydney, has undergone a complete renovation. Part of the renovation was the construction of a new roof section over the existing metal one. While installing steel columns, it was discovered that there was an existing asbestos roof beneath the metal. Lidoran Roofing was contacted to come and carry out an inspection to clarify the extent of asbestos. It was determined that the asbestos was continuous throughout the roof and as such, Lidoran Roofing was engaged to remove both the asbestos and the existing metal roof sheeting.
The site was closed to all other activities and contractors while the Lidoran boys removed the metal roofing, the battens and then the asbestos sheeting underneath. The old insulation and wire was removed, then the roof and tongue, and groove ceiling were given a thorough cleaning. Tontine polyester sound-proof insulation was installed, new wire mesh laid down, followed by the installation of Vapor Check insulation.
The boys then conducted a layering method of firstly .6mm Custom Orb sheeting, then top hat battens, another roll of vapor check and more .6 Custom Orb. This layered technique was necessary due to the noise factor issue. It was imperative that Belvoir St Theatre was soundproof, being a place of the performing arts.
The whole production was carried out in true Lidoran style: efficient and high quality craftsmanship, and service resulting in project completion on time with minimum fuss.
