Lawson Software , a global provider of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, announced today that Digga, Australia’s largest manufacturer and exporter of gearboxes, machinery attachments and mini loaders for the earthmoving machinery industry, has signed a contract for the implementation of Lawson QuickStep Manufacturing. The new pre-configured ERP solution package, designed to help manufacturers achieve faster business results, will assist Digga in gaining better visibility across its manufacturing and warehousing operations throughout Australia, Europe and the United States. The contract was signed during Lawson’s second quarter of fiscal 2010, which ended November 30, 2009.
Founded in 1981 by Stewart Wright, Digga is 100 percent privately Australian owned and operated. The company boasts the ability to manufacture up to 95 percent of its products in house. Digga initially supplied earthmoving wearparts to local machine operators. However, a market need quickly arose for providing repairs and supplying drilling augers, leading to the establishment of a small factory in Tingalpa, Queensland, Australia. Digga moved into manufacturing in 1982 and its range of products grew steadily from there as it focused on its customers’ needs. In February 2009, Digga acquired the leading mini loader brand Kanga Loaders. The company has since formed two new divisions, Digga Service and the Kanga Loader Sales Company.
Digga pioneered a technique known as “pendulum drilling” in Australia and today produces the largest range of compact, high-torque planetary drives for the pendulum drilling and attachment industry. Machinery attachments are quick fit, labour saving devices designed to enhance the versatility and profitability of the host machine, such as a skidloader or excavator. Digga gearboxes and attachments are manufactured in the company-owned, state-of-the-art 12,000sqm (130,000 sq ft) facility in Brisbane, Australia.
Using only the highest grade materials and with the strictest of quality control methods, Digga’s gears, components and attachment range are produced using a sophisticated machining centre, robotics, as well as extensive steel fabrication processes. The company’s extensive product range of over 32 major product lines includes auger drivers, trenchers, brooms, pallet forks, stump grinders, skid hoes, four-in-one buckets, dozer blades and now Australia’s leading mini machine the Kanga loader.
A multi award winning company, Digga was recently named the “2009 Gold Coast Business of the Year”. This accolade comes after the company was also crowned with both a "2009 Australian International Design Award" and the "2009 British Export Excellence Award".
In addition to the implementation of Lawson QuickStep Manufacturing, the contract with Digga also includes deployment of Lawson Sales and Marketing Automation, Lawson e-Sales, Lawson Business Intelligence, Lawson M3 Analytics for Manufacturing, Lawson Learning Accelerator, Lawson Mobility for Service, ProcessFlow Integrator and Lawson Warehouse Mobility. Combined, these applications will help provide the company with greater control and transparency across its business, as well as help improve efficiency and customer service.
David Hope, general manager and regional managing director of Lawson Asia Pacific, said, “The new partnership with Digga is proof once again that our QuickStep solution is meeting the needs of mid-sized manufacturing companies. The solution is ideal for organisations that want to implement without major modifications, yet still expect continuous improvement over the long term.”
Implementation on the Digga project has commenced and will work on a phased approach to roll out.
