FULL integration and visibility of data across all functional areas are just two of the reasons why ITW Deltar adopted VISUAL Enterprise from Infor as its ERP solution for the 21st century. The system is available from LSA Australia Pty Ltd.
With a state of the art factory located in Oakleigh, Victoria, employing approximately 100 people, ITW Deltar is a Tier 1 automotive supplier and operates under the global umbrella of the Illinois Tool Works group, a diversified manufacturing company.
It is recognised as a leader in the design and manufacture of engineered plastic fasteners and specialised components for the automotive industry, not just in Australia but worldwide.
Their product line includes one piece injection moulded fasteners, routing clips, plastic rivets, panel fasteners, trim clips and plastic nuts as well as interior and exterior door handles, and bonnet and boot release assemblies.
"We identified the need for an integrated ERP system, as the company had been using dated and disparate systems for a number of years,” said General Manager of ITW Deltar, Kent Ballan.
“We started our search in early 2003. We had poor visibility across the whole company, which in turn led to frustrations in getting timely and reliable information.”
With the accelerated pace of development within today's automotive industry, ITW Deltar were aware that to remain competitive the system they chose would need to meet the strict policies that the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) had laid down, such as zero tolerance for rework, aggressive delivery schedules and tight price controls.
After evaluating a number of different systems, ITW Deltar chose Infor VISUAL Enterprise as its preferred solution.
Kent Ballan stated: "Of all the systems that we reviewed, none had all our requirements covered to the extent that VISUAL Enterprise does. It offered complete integration, visibility across all functional areas with the added bonus of true Finite Scheduling, had a quality suite that fulfilled automotive industry requirements of QS 9000, EDI, work flow functionality and powerful lean manufacturing capabilities.”
"We felt that the Infor VISUAL solution was a robust system that could also be tailored to meet the changing needs of our business."
The Infor VISUAL Enterprise solution for automotive suppliers helps companies maximise revenues and efficiencies, offering specific features that allow automotive/EDI users to dynamically manage distribution operations on a customer-by-customer basis.
"We knew that moving from our disparate systems to a complete enterprise suite would be challenging and we wanted to keep it as simple as possible while still fulfilling our mandatory requirements," said Mr Ballan.
“Being able to implement the VISUAL system quickly because of the total integration of the modules chosen also was an unanticipated bonus from a cost saving viewpoint.”
ITW has a strong commitment to quality, which begins by listening to their customers and understanding their needs, translating those needs into the products and ensuring those products are of consistent and exceptional quality and are delivered on time. To underpin this commitment, a quality system was essential.
The VISUAL Quality suite offers a comprehensive quality control system that provides additional automotive functionality such as ISO/QS Document Management, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Statistical Process Control (SPC) to name but a few of a large portfolio of modules and it is also AIAG compliant.
And how does Kent Ballan see the future for ITW Deltar and their new enterprise system?
"With VISUAL, we will have control over our costing, and our inventory levels will be more accurate, our quality control will be more comprehensive but most of all, we will have visibility across our business, which will enable us to make better management decisions based on real time data from a single source."
