LS STARRETT has introduced a versatile, pocket-sized surface roughness tester. This new product, the Model 3800, is a compact, economical instrument designed for measuring surface textures that conform to traceable standards.
Because the 3800 operates on many surfaces including flat, outer cylinder, outer cone, grooves and recesses greater than 80mm x 30mm, it can handle a wide variety of ‘shop floor’, quality control and inspection applications.
Surface data is acquired with a diamond tracer tipped, piezo-electric stylus.
The 3800 is easy to use. Simply place the unit at any angle against the part being measured. Then, at the touch of a button, the common roughness parameters Ra or Rz, combined with the selected cutoff lengths, are all viewed from a large, easy-to-read LCD display.
Convenience is enhanced by a special CAL button, which quickly provides external calibration of the roughness values. In addition, a beep signal informs the user about each individual measurement status when ready.
Accuracy is within tolerances that conform to ISO class 3. The Ra parameter is computed to ISO and Rz conforms to DIN.
The unit weighs only 200g, can be operated on battery power or line cord and is furnished with carrying case, charger, roughness standard and manual.
