Global supplier of overhead cranes and lifting equipment, Konecranes , is expanding its comprehensive range of explosion proof cranes and components for service, retrofits and upgrading.

Konecranes' EX products for hazardous environments range from safety-focussed jib cranes, manual cranes and electric and manual hoists in capacities from 125kg to 100t, through to the largest overhead beam and double girder cranes used by heavy industry, with capacities of more than 210t.

All EX strategic components are designed and manufactured to ensure the highest safety level required in hazardous atmospheres, these components include:

  • wire rope hoists
  • chain hoists
  • belt hoists
  • travelling machineries
  • end carriages; and
  • crane controls.
These safety features make Konecranes explosion proof cranes and components particularly suitable for use in hazardous environments such as those involved in:
  • energy and resources applications
  • chemical and petrochemical plants
  • oil refineries and gas power plants
  • mines
  • mineral processing and waste water treatment plants
  • automotive paint shops; and
  • manufacturing plants.
Konecranes has drawn on decades of experience globally to produce these expanded Australian ranges, which are fully compliant both with the latest Australasian standards as well as the ATEX Directives adopted by the European Union.
Konecranes explosion proof cranes and components also comply with European explosion proof standards such as EN60079-0 / -1 / -7 / -11 / -15. These products for hazardous environments are also type tested by approved notified bodies and all products are provided with CE marking and documentation.

Konecranes products for gas hazardous environments meet the requirements for Category 2 & 3, and the company also offers a wide range of products for dust hazardous environments.
Specific ranges are available for the industries such as:

  • petro-chemical
  • power and gas
  • steel
  • mining
  • ports and infrastructure
  • pulp and paper
  • general manufacturing
  • automotive
The Konecranes range of CXT Hazardous Environment hoists utilise the same designs and space-saving features shared by the latest CXT platform hoists. These hazardous environment hoists feature components rated for specific site safety needs and each hoisting unit comes with a cCSAus or ATEX rating certificate.
With totally enclosed and fan-cooled motors designed for crane use, these hoists use PTC switches highly suitable for hazardous environments. The hoisting units also come with electrical enclosures, overload switches, pushbuttons, and limit switches rated for hazardous environment use. Furthermore, all mechanical parts within the CXT Hazardous Envirnoments hoists have been designed to reduce the risk of sparks and ignition in explosive atmospheres during normal operation.

Konecranes' CXT Hazardous Environment hoists are available as low headroom (up to 10 tons), normal headroom (up to 40 tons), and double girder hoists (up to 80 tons).

Recently, Konecranes’ 25 service locations throughout Australia and New Zealand was recognised for the quality of service offered when the Konecranes Western Australian branch was declared the global group’s best service branch in the world from among 370 branches internationally with more than 373,000 cranes of all brands under service contracts.
