New to the market is a unique low cost, micro vibration sensor smaller than a grain of rice. Suitable for SMD mounting, the switch can be fitted (hidden) on a PCB to be almost undetectable.
The Sensolute micro sensor is mainly useful for applications where conserving battery power when no movement is detected. However, the opposite could apply if a system needs to be started when any movement occurs.
The Sensolute micro sensor (2.45 x 2.85 x 1.7mm) is compliant to RoHS2002/95/EG with an operational temperature range of -20 to +70 degrees Celsius. Made using a PCB Laminate process the contact ball is gold plated and any movement bridges two gold plated contacts which reduces the contact resistance from several mega ohms down to below 100 ohms.
Normally the switch is used in conjunction with a low power micro controller that switches a MOSFET on if the device is agitated and when the device comes to rest it can be powered off by the microcontroller after a suitable delay time.
In idle mode a detection system could have a low power consumption of less than 1.2 microAmps. Maximum operating voltage is +15V.
