The centuries old battery pack and electrical cable on the mininc caplamp are becoming history.
Compact rechargeable batteries have been developed significantly in the last decade, thanks to the development of cellular phones, mobile computers and other mobile devices. Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries stand out owing to their high energy density and other advanced features. In the mean time, LED has become more and more efficient. Combining the new battery and LED technologies, the world’s first cordless mining caplamp was born at Kinyun Science and Technology Development in 2004.
Today, thousands of miners are wearing these caplamps in Europe, South Africa, China, North America and South America. Now it is coming to the last continent – Australia and New Zealand, distributed by Kinyun Australia Pty Ltd.
The new caplamp integrates a highly compact 2.4Ah Lithium-ion rechargeable battery and 9 highly efficient white LEDs into a small IP67 headlight case so that the traditional belt worn battery pack and electrical cable become redundant. It weights only 160g, even lighter than the headpiece of majority traditional caplamps.

The adjustable light angle requested by Germany standard is first seen in Australia. The intrinsically safety is rated as Ex ia I/IIC T4 for industries like mining oil & gas and emergency & firefighting. The recommended lifetime is two years. Operating time are 12 hours for main light and 120 hours for auxiliary light. Different from traditional caplamp, it maintains the luminous intensity in a high level throughout the whole operating period with comfortable sunlight style light.
The removal of battery pack and electrical cable not only increases the work efficiency, but also enhances the safety. Easy recharge and negligible maintenance reduce the lamp room staff. Cordless is undoubtedly the future of mining caplamps. The Kinyun’s standard model is expected to be released in September, 2006, certified by TestSafe IECEx. The strobe model and warning model will be tested and certified soon after. Kinyun Australia is dedicated to bringing this new technology into Australia and New Zealand, and will introduce more exciting cordless caplamps with new features and new functions, including gas detection model, tracking tag model and radio model.
