AN Australian wood processor and exporter has installed an effective cleaning device to achieve greater productivity and enhanced environmental control at its ship loading facility.
Loading high grade wood chip bound for paper production markets in Asia, the company's materials handling system requires 24 hours a day operation when filling bulk ships, but unscheduled downtime was being caused by high volumes of fine particle waste carrying back to the conveyor transfer points.
Not only would this by-product of the loading exercise cause costly demurrage time, there was an added concern the fine wood waste could be carried by wind into the sea.
To thwart potential problems, operations managers examined options before installing a Kinder Type 1000 Series motorised brush cleaner on the final transfer conveyor.
Manufactured by Kinder & Co , the K-Brush unit allows flexibility to change 'segmented' brushes without removing the shaft, so that worn sections of a brush can be replaced simply and efficiently.
The unit is fabricated from stainless steel. Motor and gearbox are sealed, thus allowing these aspects of the system to operate maintenance free for life.
