A biannual stocktake at a huge Big W distribution warehouse was completed more quickly than normal with the help of 25 forklift work platforms hired from Kennards Lift & Shift. Specially designed for mounting on the elevating device of a high lift fork truck, these forklift platform units are ideal for a range of short duration jobs, including maintenance such as changing light globes and cleaning windows.
All 330 staff at the 75,000 square metres Big W distribution centre at Monarto in Adelaide took part in the mid-2009 stocktake.
Maintenance manager Neil Henschke said the 24-hours operation normally took more than two days to complete, but on this occasion was finished in about one and half days.The aisles were too narrow for cherry pickers to pass, and too fast. By using the Kennards lift and shift forklifts platforms, this company saved time on their stocktake, and didn't need to train extra staff on how to use cherry pickers.
Kennards Lift & Shift forklift platforms, which have a safe working load (SWL) of 250kg, are manufactured in accordance with AS 2359.1.
They are fully welded, weigh 115kg and internally, are 1.2m long, one metre wide and 1.9m high, and have harness anchor points, alongside being supplied with slipper locking pins.
