September heralds the start of spring, but it’s also the start of the Kennards for Kids campaign, the company’s annual initiative to raise money for children’s educational and medical charities.

Through the generous support of their customers during the last 11 years, Kennards Hire has donated $1 for every hire made in their national network of hire centres during September and October. More than $1.5 million has been donated by the company since the initiative was first launched in 1998.

“I’m proud to say that the Kennards for Kids project has helped build a hanger and provided a tug to tow the Child Flight helicopters. Our donations have also bought 6 Variety Sunshine Coaches in Victoria and South Australia, helped to provide mobile home care units for children with cancer in Queensland and taught life skills to more than 180,000 children in Western Australia through the Constable Care program,” said Angus Kennard, a director of the Kennards Group.

In 2008, over $200,000 was shared between Child Flight, Variety the Children’s Charity, the Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation and the Constable Care Child Safety Foundation. This year, Kennards Hire will again support these charities and the company is hoping to increase the size of their donation with the help of Tradies.

“In the current economic climate, charities are doing it tough but refrigeration and air conditioning tradies can help a good cause. When they need to hire equipment, whether it’s access equipment or a demolition saw, simply go to a Kennards Hire Centre and pick up the gear they need. The greater the number of hire contracts, the larger the donation that Kennards will make,” Angus said.

A strong philanthropic culture exists at Kennards Hire. The company has always been willing to help those-in-need, both in the local community and also at a national level when major disasters strike.

To assist with the aftermath of the Victorian Bushfires, Kennards rapidly sourced generators and other equipment from interstate and delivered it to the affected areas less than 48 hours later. In addition, the company and its employees made a $28,000 contribution to the appeal. Kennards Hire also supports environmental programs such as Landcare, Clean Up Australia and the Koala Retreat.
“We believe that we have a responsibility to support the community and the environment. In additional to being a long-term sponsor of the Kennards for Kids charities, we sell bandannas in all our hire centres and we raised over $17,000 for Canteen last year. Kennards Hire also provides funding to Stepping Stone House, which helps homeless, neglected and abused teenagers to get a new start,” Angus said.

Kennards Hire is a family-owned business that has grown into one of Australia’s leading hire companies. Today, it turns over around $160m per annum. The company operates more than 100 hire centres nationally and employs over 900 Australians.

In addition to offering a large and diverse range of tools, equipment and vehicles in their general Hire Centres, the Kennards Group now includes three other highly specialised businesses.

Kennards Concrete Care specialises in hiring equipment for residential, industrial and commercial concrete surface preparation, cleaning, repair and maintenance. As the name suggests, Kennards Lift & Shift has everything needed to lift, shift or move heavy or awkward loads, while Kennards Groundcare caters for the specific needs of professional landscapers, greenkeepers and arborists.

“With a heritage of more than 60 years in the hire industry, we’re proud of our enviable reputation for quality, reliability, value for money and service. Whether it’s our extensive range of equipment, the cleanliness of our hire centres, our standard of customer service or our growing range of specialist businesses, Kennards Hire is committed to giving something back and delivering excellence in everything we do.” Angus Kennard said.
