Kennards Hire has announced the opening of a branch in Launceston, indicating that this will be the first step towards establishing a network of rental equipment outlets in Tasmania.
The company says the move will enable it to do a better job for existing customers who operate in Tasmania, while also benefiting local contractors and businesses in that state by providing strong, new competition in the hire industry.
The new outlet follows the acquisition by Kennards of the long-established family business, Carey Hire.
Carey Hire’s owner, Ross Carey, says that he is ready to semi-retire, and was motivated in his decision to sell by the fact that Kennards Hire was also a family-owned company.
“There have been a few people chasing my business over the years, but my preference, when the time was right, was Kennards. I have always admired them as a family business and I like the way they operate,” he explains.
Kennards Group Chief Executive John Tolmie notes that the decision to move into Tasmania was a major step towards the company’s goal of establishing a complete national branch network.
Only the Northern Territory is yet to be directly serviced by Kennards rental equipment hire outlets.
Mr Tolmie added that, in the long term, some of the company’s specialist equipment operations could also expand into Tasmania.
