Kennards Rails is a new specialised business set up by Kennards Hire to meet the needs of maintenance trades in the rail infrastructure industry. Kennards Hire’s new business is aligned with the estimated increased spending of 15 billion dollars by the Australian Federal Government over the next three or four years towards the upgrade of 40,000km of rail network infrastructure across Australia.
Kennards Rail focuses on supplying an extensive range of specialist rail equipment to maintenance contractors. Located at a purpose-built facility in Rutherford in NSW’s Hunter Valley, the new business will also service VIC and SA. In addition to functioning as an equipment hire branch, it will also serve as a training location, allowing team members to attain accreditation and become familiar with rail equipment.
Kennards Rail has invested in team training through CERT (Centre of Excellence in Rail Training), an accredited RTO for the benefit of the specialist rail team to help rail customers.
Alex Eisermann, Manager of Kennards Rail said that the skilled team from a number of branches including VIC and SA will undergo comprehensive training to get their One Track/Pegasus/RISI cards to become certified and accredited machinery operator trainers.
The Kennards Rail branch stocks a wide range of rail equipment ready to hire including trolleys, rail drills, rail saws, 70 ton tensors, weld shears, weld kits, portable Pelican lighting, Robel rail clamps, rail benders, rail head grinders, switch grinders, sundry hand tools including pan setters and pullers as well as fast clip installers and extractors, Cobra tampers, Vortok rollers and Vortok safety barriers among others.
Eisermann explains that the biggest benefit for contractors hiring the new equipment from Kennards Hire Rail is they don’t have the large capital outlay of new compliant equipment, ongoing maintenance costs and regular certification inspections required every six to 12 months.
All of Kennards Rail’s serialised assets carry a QR barcode, which will provide instant access via a smart phone app to a host of information such as service history, operator manual, risk assessment and insurance details.
Customers also have access to the Kennards Hire network of 130 branches, where they can hire rail equipment such as lighting towers, diesel generators, portable sheds, and traffic and crowd control barriers among others.
