Kennards Hire expands equipment hire business into Northern Territory

Supplier News

Equipment hire company, Kennards Hire has acquired Top End Hire to extend its network of 121 equipment hire centres into Northern Territory.

With this acquisition, Kennards Hire has become a fully national operator with operations in every state and territory in Australia. Top End Hire has four branches in Palmerston, Winnellie, Coolalinga and Alice Springs.

Kennards CEO John Tolmie said that the Northern Territory had been the ‘missing link’ in the company’s branch network. The company intends to continue to deliver the equipment and service that existing Top End Hire customers have come to expect.

Kennards Hire would continue to meet the needs of a wide range of hirers from major construction and mining companies and local government bodies to smaller contractors, factories, retailers and home renovators. A range of new equipment would be introduced to supplement the existing operations.

Kennards Hire, which was founded in 1948 continues to be owned by the Kennard family. According to Kennards director Angus Kennard, the biggest achievement is that the company has achieved tremendous growth while remaining a family-owned business, totally committed to striving for quality in every way.

Darren Gilpin and Duncan McKinstray, who started Top End Hire in 1995 and built it into one of the Territory’s biggest general equipment hire businesses, said that Kennards was always their preference thanks to a common business approach and shared values.
