Kennards Events has been praised for its contribution to the success of Floriade 2007, the largest spring festival in the southern hemisphere and Canberra’s premier tourist event.
A record number of visitors, exceeding last year’s 375,000, flocked to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin for the 20th anniversary of the event, which started as a one-off flower show.
Most of the new Hoecker pavilions, purchased by Kennards Events in a $3 million outlay on new equipment, were used for the first time at the festival.
Thirty pavilions were provided, from 525sq m and 450 sq m down to 3m by 3m pagoda spring tops. Tables, chairs, exhibition panels, staging, retail counters and feature lighting were also supplied.
Floriade Event Manager Jo Verden said that as the official supplier of marquee and Hoecker requirements, Kennards Events was a significant contributor to the festival’s success.
“Building the infrastructure required for Floriade is a large and, at times, challenging job, with requirements sometimes changing or requiring alteration only after structures were built,” she said.
“The entire Kennards Events team was consistent and professional throughout the planning and implementation stages.
“The quality of the structures, including the flooring, ramps and handrails, was very pleasing.
“On-site co-ordination and regular consultation resulted in a seamless bump-in for the event.
“The ability to access 24/7 on-site maintenance was critical, and the response from Kennards Events was terrific.”
The pavilions met demanding safety and accessible requirements, complying with the Building Code of Australia, FS-10 Policy, Fire Safety in Marquees as developed by ACT Fire Brigade, Australian Standards AS 1428.1 Design for access and disability, and the Marquee Installers Training Course as endorsed by the Hire Rental Industry Association (HRIA).
A big investment by Kennards Events in new exhibition equipment allowed good indoor displays. New stock includes Octanorm shell scheme stands, display panels, supported by a complete range of furniture.
The stands were co-ordinated and erected by staff who have recently joined Kennards Events and who have a wealth of experience in the exhibition industry.
