Silicone tubes from Jehbco Manufacturing offer a better alternative to silicone sponge when used as a seal for castings and fittings that are not uniform in size.
Though silicone sponge has been traditionally used as a sealing solution for the application due to its ability to fill up voids that a more solid material would struggle to achieve, Jehbco has discovered over its 40 years of experience that sponge is not the best choice for this specific requirement.
The ineffective compression set of silicone sponge means that it does not bounce back very well when squashed down. The open cell structure and insufficient waterproofing are also drawbacks.
Jehbco has found silicone tubes to offer a better sealing solution for the application. A solid tubular cross-section or a profile with a hollow area (to allow for compression) bounces back more consistently and forms a watertight seal for an extended period of time. These silicone seals also have greater tensile and tear strength and can be made in a multitude of colours.
