The Blackmores Sydney Running Festival, comprising of a marathon, half marathon and bridge run celebrated its 10th anniversary recently. Over 34,000 competitors took part in the event.
Event Sound managed the audio for the four event zones, exclusively using JBL speakers with VRX 932LAP utilised as their main box of choice.
Other boxes used as distributed systems and entertainment stage monitors included JBL SRX700 series and JBL Eon510 speakers.
From the perspective of sound transmission, the Start Site at North Sydney was quite challenging with a focused concentration of sound required for the three-zoned start areas that would not infringe too much into the residential buildings.
Keith Clarkson, managing director of Event Sound says that the VRX speaker systems enabled them to accomplish a directional system providing great clarity and throw across the areas that needed to be covered.
Shure UHF-R radio microphone systems with active antennas were used across all event areas successfully, especially with the announcer microphones ending up over 200m away from the control system.
The Sydney Opera House forecourt was the finish site at this year’s event and the venue was expanded from previous years for better audience coverage.
JBL VRX speakers provided a high quality of sound uniformly spread across the site.
Keith added that with JBL SRX running MP3 instructional systems in the Royal Botanic Gardens leading to the Recovery Village, everyone found their way to the entertainment stage, which was running JBL VRX boxes with Eon stage monitors and more JBL SRX boxes providing distributed audio throughout the village.
All audio systems used Shure UHF-R radios and were controlled by Soundcraft mixers including Compact 4/ EPM8s and GB4.
JBL, Shure and Soundcraft audio systems are available from Jands , a major Australian supplier of professional sound systems in addition to lighting and stage equipment.
