The North Shore classic, The Stoned Crow has gone through a 5-month renovation and now features a ‘back to nature’ theme with cosy nooks, mood lighting and faux animal hides.

The Constant Group executed the audio design for the renovated bar, opting for a JBL speaker package that includes the new JBL Control 62P satellite pendant speakers powered by two Crown XLS1000 amplifiers, two Crown CDi1000 amplifiers and a Crown 280A amplifier.

Con Constantinou, managing director of The Constant Group explains that they wanted a great restaurant feel with high quality sound in the background, while also taking into consideration that the venue may be used for private functions, allowing for DJ integration.

The challenge for The Constant Group was to ensure that all areas of the venue were covered with quality sound, while making sure the sound did not spill out the front bifold windows affecting the residential complex built above it.

Highlights of the audio system installed at The Stoned Crow:

  • Four JBL Control 24 in-ceiling speakers installed into the entry area
  • 2 sets of four JBL Control 25AV loudspeakers and JBL Control 50 compact subwoofer service the front dining area and the middle area near the bar
  • Two JBL Control 25AV loudspeakers installed into the front lounge area
  • Four JBL Control 62P satellite pendant speakers and a JBL Control 50 compact subwoofer feed the front of the bar area
  • BSS Soundweb London BLU-100 digital signal processor and BLU-10 touch screen networked remote control panel
According to Con, the JBL Control 62P satellite pendant speakers hang from the ceiling in front of the bar area and function as great fill-in speakers, allowing bar staff to hear the patron’s orders while delivering high quality sound into the area at lower levels than the rest of the restaurant.

The Constant Group has designed the audio system so that they have full control of all seven zones with pre-programmed modes, ensuring the correct levels are used throughout the day along with automatic dropping of the volume in the evening for the front zone to prevent music from spilling onto the street through the bifold doors.

The two lounge areas also needed a cosy and comfortable level of music, which was achieved by having separate control over all zones.

The system is controlled using the BSS Soundweb London BLU-100 digital signal processor and the BLU-10 touch screen networked remote control panel located at easy reach behind the bar.
