Merewether Surfhouse also acts as function center, the open plan are can be divided into separate rooms for uses such as weddings, seminars, product launches and other community related activities with a large wrap around verandah and rear terrace area.
The venue was kitted out by Impact AV Australia who installed an audio and visual design to suit the low ceilings and ambient lighting from the exterior glass walls. Taking into account the flexible audio visual environment for a variety of room layouts in the multi room facility.
Lighting within the Merewether was designed to provide maximum flexibility in a corporate function center. ETC Source Four jr Zooms profile lams were fitted as they were ideal for the shorter throw distances in the Surfhouse.
“The ETC Source Four jr Zooms are a good compact size and use a 575 watt lamp so they’re energy efficient and really suit the venue," Silas Creel, Managing Director of Impact AV.
A JANDS Vista S1 lighting system was chosen by Silas mainly because of its reliable and flexible system of Australian design.
“We’re using Jands Vista as our main lighting control platform in all of our venues now as it is so stable and reliable,” he said. “Impact AV Australia has been running Vista v2 software for awhile now in hire stock, and are happy with the ease of use and reliability of the product,” said Mr Creel.
Impact AV Australia installed JBL Control 24CTM in ceiling speakers with JBL Control 25AV speakers used for the outdoor balcony. “We like their quality of the sound and ease of use,” Silas Creel.
“We went with the stainless steel covers to deal with the high salt environment, and we are finding those to be successful," says Silas.
Control is via the BSS BLU-160 audio signal processors and I/O expanders whilst Crown amplifiers were used with all the installed JBL speakers. Shure MX418/C microphones were also installed for presentation use.
The installation has been a huge success so far, a strong interest in the Hunter Region for the Surfhouse and Impact AV Australia’s audio visual installation systems.
