Lifetime Audio Design was tasked with setting up an audio system for a new cocktail bar created by one of Australia’s leading names in the dining and drinking space.
Longrain has converted their basement into a separate cocktail bar area and daytime tuck-shop called ‘Shortgrain’ offering Longrain's distinct fare as a quick lunchtime option for busy city professionals.
Featuring a Manhattan-style warehouse vibe, Longrain's cocktail bar is home to resident DJs who create the perfect mood for lounging back and sipping cocktails.
Dave Carnovale, managing director of Lifetime Audio Design and a resident DJ at the venue for many years was given the task of creating the audio system.
In addition to a couple of sub woofers that the owners wanted to re-use, Dave selected eight JBL Control25AV speakers to give the required coverage, installing six in the bar area and two near the bar area in the corridor to the toilets.
Explaining his selection, Dave said that the Control25AV boxes needed to deliver background music most of the time with the ability to crank up the volume on Friday and Saturday nights.
Four Crown XLS amplifiers drive the PA system. Speaking about their features and performance, Dave comments that the amplifiers have DSP onboard, which means that the crossover frequency can be changed at the output stage on the amplifier, eliminating the need for a separate processor.
Dave also specified Shure M44-7 cartridges for the venue since some of the DJs used vinyl LPs, and the high quality, high output cartridge catered for all eras of vinyl pressings including newer vinyl and older vinyl LPs with a noticeably lower output.
JBL speakers and Crown amplifiers are available in Australia through Jands , a leading distributor of professional audio equipment as well as lighting and staging systems.
