James Walker Australia ’s Treadmaster floor coverings were recently used in a major Australian rail project that involved over 620 rolling stock carriages.
The project, a joint venture of Downer EDI Rail and Hitachi, will deliver 626 new air conditioned train carriages on behalf of Reliance Rail. The eight-car Waratah trains are being progressively delivered for RailCorp operations from late 2010.
James Walker Australia Marketing Director Paul Williams explains that the company has “been working with Downer EDI Rail to match their colour requirements and also to meet the technical performance specifications, such as fire resistance, low toxicity and good anti-slip properties.”
Treadmaster TM8 floor coverings were selected for the project. They are adhered to the underlying base floor of the train carriages, becoming the finished surface that passengers will talk on.
Treadmaster TM8 is a polymer-based flooring solution that provides safety features such as high fire resistance and low smoke toxicity. It is also hard wearing, and vandal and graffiti resistant.
While the Treadmaster flooring range is used extensively on trains for the London underground system and also features on South Africa's first rapid transit system as well as new trains for the London 2012 Olympics, this project is the first application for the range in Australia.
