Surge Comparison Testing is a comprehensive quality control method for electrical windings. Surge comparison tester is extremely effective as a diagnostic tool to evaluate and detect any windings fault that may exist.
The Surge test can be used to detect the following in the windings:-
- turn – to – turn short circuits
- coil – to – coil short circuits
- phase – to – phase short circuits
- reverse coil connections
- open coils
- grounded coils
- defective insulation
Since faults are indicated on CRT screen also, a technician can quickly determine the type of faults and often the cause and location of the defect. No other single test offers this diagnostic capability. To manufacturers this means that the faulty windings can be isolated and repaired at every stage of manufacturing thus, ensuring quality and saving in material and labor costs.
DC Hi-Pot test
