JMP Holdings supplies a range of Silica Gel and Clay Based Desiccants. Silica Gel is commonly used for small spaces whereas Clay Desiccants are more effective in applications such as 20’ and 40’ shipping containers.
A desiccant is a hygroscopic substance that induces or sustains a state of dryness (desiccation) in its local vicinity in a moderately-well sealed container. The desiccants are designed to protect items from moisture damage by absorbing the moisture/humidity in the air and not allowing condensation to form.
Silica Gel Desiccants are often used in the pharmaceutical and food industries where the enclosed space is small and the absorption rate needs to be rapid. The Silica Gel works quickly to dry out the air within this space and to work most effectively should be closed off completely from fresh air.
Clay Desiccants also absorb quickly. The capacity of JMP’s UniSorb Clay Desiccants is up to 100% of its own weight. Clay desiccants are reliable for objects moving product over many weeks, such as ocean freight. Quite often exporters will move shipping containers across the equator which increases their exposure to condensation. By using UniSorb Clay Desiccants these exporters reduce chances of water damage, carton damage, mould and rust.
JMP UniSorb Desiccants are all packed in state of the art DuPont Tyvek packaging which is designed to absorb moisture without releasing water back into the environment. UniSorb silica gel is also available in loose form inside bulk 10kg drums.
