JL Lennard has released the special bag shaping (SBS) Brick Pack 400 system, capable of producing free-standing block bottom packs with a variety of top-closing and re-closable features. The SBS systems allow granulated, powdery and piece food products to stand up prominently on supermarket shelves. It is particularly suitable for cereals, pasta, rice, dried fruit, herbs, spices, snacks, bakery and confectionary. The packs have convenient opening and closing options such as tin-ties, clips, gables and zippers.
The company has also released the SBS 250 Brick Pack machine, providing efficient and cost-effective production of flat-bottom style bags with a variety of top-closing designs and reclosable features. The machine is a fully automatic vertical fill, form and seal machine with up to two simultaneous vertical baggers. It integrates horizontal conveyors that condition the product and adjust the bag heights for sealing. It can handle up to 120 bags a minute.
The SBS Brick Pack 400 is a flat-bottom bagger that modifies bag tops to produce brick-style packages. The machine forms a bag, fills it with product, and pushes excess air out before closing it with a fold, tin tie, clip, label, tape, zipper, or any of other of the 30 different bag top styles available. The SBS is a combination of a Rovema fully automatic vertical form-fill-and-seal machine, simultaneous vertical baggers and additional stations for bag shaping and top forming. Depending on the product, multi-head weighers, volumetric cup dosers or auger fillers can be incorporated.
A variety of packaging materials can be used with both the SBS 250 and SBS 400, including mono and multi-layered, on a wide range of format sizes. Stations producing the different bag designs are driven separately and are easily changed to meet future marketing needs.
The SBS system integrates horizontal conveyors that condition the product and adjust the bag heights for sealing. Bag transport through an automatic conveyor belt system includes a vibrating section for product compacting. The complete line is controlled via an industrial PC with a touch screen operator panel. Up to 1,000 programs can store product specific parameters to ensure a quick changeover.
The SBS250 and SBS 400 systems' effective packaging solutions enhance product sensitivity and freshness. For fragile products, rather than filling through a long forming tube, empty bags can be introduced into the system to be filled at a separate filling station, integrated above the horizontal section of the machine. Low product drop minimises product damage.
Each package is filled and immediately sealed, eliminating product contamination. The product is then settled and the seal is broken for an air vacuum that removes excess air. The package is then re-gusseted, resealed and the excess material is removed.
