Queensland contractor Euie Harrison is back at the controls, thanks to the spacious cab, easy access and hand controls of the 150T tracked loader from JCB Construction Equipment Australia
A serious motorcycle accident three years ago has kept Euie confined to a wheelchair and unable to work as an operator in his business, Kilcoy Landscaping Supplies. Instead, he focused on the administrative and management side of the business, with wet hires of skid steers, water carts and tipper trucks.
Euie first looked at the JCB skid steer range on the recommendation of an Employment Options adviser, taking delivery of the 150T tracked loader in July. While other machines offer access to the cab from the front, over or under attachments, JCB’s 150T, which features a single arm power boom, makes side access possible.
Euie had earlier tried operating a wheeled skid steer but was unable to do so. However, the tracked design of the JCB 150T with a side entry allows him to park his wheelchair next to it and transfer across to the seat. The hand controls in the cab allow him to operate the machine effortlessly.
Euie finds the 150T perfect for his business. A good mid-range machine that’s not too tall, the 150T tracked loader uses fuel about the same as his other machines but delivers higher productivity as it pushes more, levels better and definitely performs better in wet areas, offering a bit more traction than a tractor. The side entry door not only makes JCB’s machines more accessible, it also enhances safety for all operators.
The 150T is the first tracked machine he has owned and Euie believes it will help expand the company’s job options because it’s a bit more versatile in varying conditions than his wheeled skid steers. Although he chose JCB because of his particular access requirements, he said he’ll go back to the brand when it’s time to upgrade his other machines.
The new skid steer range was launched in Australia last month.
