The laser cutting and sheet metal fabrication operations have been relocated to a new building site within the company's principal Shepparton operations.
The two laser cutting machines installed are able to process mild, Bisalloy and stainless steel up to 16 mm thickness, together with a wide range of aluminium, mdf, acrylic and UHMWPE materials.
The two BLS lasers have been relocated to the new centre to give better materials movement and production scheduling.
They have been complemented by the installation of a new guillotine able to handle sheet sizes of 4m in width by 8mm in thickness for stainless steel and 12mm thickness for mild steel.
Also available on the site are cutting and brake pressing with four different brake press capacities including 80, 150, 300 and 1,200 tonne hydraulic press units.
According to Adam Furphy, managing director of J Furphy & Sons, the Shepparton operations comprise some of the largest metals processing and component manufacture facilities available on one site in regional Victoria.
He says he has always derived a strong work load out of the Melbourne metropolitan area as well as regional Victorian manufacturing industries as his company offers accurately dimensioned cut and fold work at cost competitive rates.
Furphy believes that with the continued shortage of metal trades personnel more businesses will be keen to outsource the production of their short and long run component requirements and saving their own trade skills base for critical tasks like final fabrication.
Typical users of Furphy Metal Services include materials handling, conveyor, packaging and general engineering and manufacturing industries.
With its origins tracing back to 1864, the J Furphy & Sons group is committed to meeting or exceeding its customer's expectations to quality at all levels and operates a system based on AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000.
