" . . . a software solution which controlled order entry, stock control, manufacturing, and invoicing"
"I was looking for a software solution which controlled order entry, stock control, manufacturing, and invoicing.
The ability to check every step - from the beginning of production to order-delivery - was important". MD of Industrial Yarns, Jeff McKeon, says he got all of those and much more from Intrinsic Software 's WinMAGI.
In business since 1986, Industrial Yarns Pty Ltd, is a 'family' SME, in Campbellfield near Melbourne.
The company twists yarn, and is only one of two such companies in Australia. Polyester yarns, the raw materials, are drawn from overseas - approximately ten types of 1,000 denier yarn.
Once twisted, the yarn is used mainly for reinforcement purposes - for example, in hoses and conveyor belts, but also for other things such as lifting slings, ropes and braids.
The delivered product used for these purposes comes in hundreds of combinations of lengths, thicknesses and spool-sizes and -shapes.
Their first experience with ERP software was satisfactory, but substantial limitations quickly became apparent.
Implementation of a complete manufacturing ERP system, including MRP and Production Control, was a logical next step, and WinMAGI was chosen.
In making that choice, the option to use the standard WinMAGI's Financials, or to interface to MYOB, was a factor.
The initial set-up for a three-seat, full ERP-system took only six weeks.
"We've derived a number of benefits from buying WinMAGI", says Jeff. "The most important are saved time, elimination of guess work, knowing immediately what goods are complete, having immediate answers to enquiries (our clients love that), and reduced stress.
"And", he adds with a quiet smile, "no more panics".
Administration Manager, Hayley Skerry, found the training provided by Intrinsic was "patient, thorough, and free of computer jargon.
Overall, we have found WinMAGI easy to use, intuitive, and it has a very logical flow of menus".
"There have also been a few pleasant 'surprises' - the amount of information that is readily available, instant information on the status of orders, a much improved overview of the total business, and, in some ways, WinMAGI moved our operations in the general direction of Australian quality standards".
