AVAILABLE from Interworld Electronics are Quatech's DSC-200/300 and QSC-200/300 Serial PCI adapters, which provide two or four independent serial channels respectively. They are configurable on-board as either RS-422 or RS-485 and supports speeds of up to 921.6kbps.
For optimal performance in industrial settings, surge suppression and ESD-resistant driver/receivers options are available. All channels on the boards are addressed in continuous I/O blocks for simplified software access, and all channels can share one PCI interrupt.
An interrupt status register is available for determining the interrupt source.
PCI registers are properly implemented to assure that Plug-and-Play works reliably, and that the card will not cause PCI bus conflicts.
High clock speeds and deep FIFOs of the boards greatly reduce CPU overhead, making these board suitable for heavy multi-tasking environments, such as Windows.
They are implemented with 16750 UARTs containing 64-byte FIFOs. They have a clock-multiplying feature allowing them to achieve data rates as high as 921.6 kbps.To maintain maximum signal integrity, Quatech's serial boards use a four-layer board design.
The surge suppression option (IND) applies a surge suppressor to each line that is capable of sustaining up to 40A 20ms peak transient surges, a clamping voltage of 30V and a peak energy dissipation of 0.1 Joules. The IND option restricts the board's speeds to 115.2 kbps.
External connections for the DSC-200/300 are provided via two on-board D-9 ports. The QSC-200/300 has a single on-board D-37 connector. An optional cable can be used to convert the D-37 into four standard D-25 male connectors. Interworld Electronics 03 9563 5011.
