INTERWORLD Electronics has a wide range of synchronous communication boards for ISA, Universal PCI, PCI, PCMCIA, PC/104 and PC/104+ based systems.
The range includes single, dual and four-port adapters for RS232, RS422/485/530 and V.35 interfaces.
Synchronous communication allows large amounts of data to be transferred at much higher baud rates than is possible with standard asynchronous communications.
In synchronous communications, many characters, bytes or bits are sent in a single block or packet. In order to transfer this large stream of data the transmitter must send a clock signal to the receiver so they can remain synchronized, hence the term synchronous communication.
By synchronizing the data stream baud rates, as high as 40Mbps can be achieved.
Synchronous communication is not directly supported by most operating systems and therefore synchronous cards will require some programming or pre-written software to function correctly.
These dedicated programs will be designed to work with a specific synchronous communication controller (SCC) and/or card.
Interworld Electronics can supply cards based on a range of synchronous communication controllers including: Zilog 85230, 16C32 IUSC and Infineon PEB20534. Driver and programming support is available for DOS, Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP.
Depending on the card and software, synchronous protocols such as SDLC, HDLC, Bi-sync Mono-sync as well as asynchronous protocols are supported.
