INTERWORLD Electronics has released the GENE-1270B RISC-based embedded system board. The GENE-1270B CPU module is based on the Intel 520MHz XScale PXA270 RISC processor. The compact design provides low power consumption and can operate from a 9 to 24V dc power supply.

The module has 2 COM ports (1 RS232, 1 RS232/485), 4 USB1.1 host ports and 1 USB1.1 client port, 1 10/100Base-TX Ethernet port, 8 digital I/O, EIDE controller, and onboard AC97 audio.

The GENE-270B supports up to 128MB SDRAM plus a 128MB M-Systems mDOC solid state disk drive. The on board Type II CompactFlash and SDIO slots can be used to provide additional removable drives.

The LCD graphics interface provides up to 640 x 480 @ 16bpp colours. An optional onboard Intel 2700G Companion Display Chipset can extended the graphics resolution to 1024 x 768 @ 24bpp colours as well as provide MPEG2/4 video decoding functions and 2D/3D graphics acceleration. The LCD interface also supports a 4-wire resistive touch screen.

The GENE-270B runs Windows CE 5.0 and its small size (146mm x 101.6mm) makes it ideal for highly integrated rugged mobile and embedded applications.
