INTERWORLD Electronics has announced the release of a series of low profile PCI, RS-232 serial boards in one, two and four port versions from Quatech.
Low profile PCI boards are designed to provide greater flexibility for embedded systems, thin-clients, desktop and server environments. Also under development are eight port asynchronous serial RS232 boards and multiport asynchronous serial RS422/485 boards.
The boards are mechanically similar to standard PCI boards, but use a shorter board and a different mounting bracket. They are designed to fit into systems as low as 3.350" without using riser cards.
The boards are built on 32-bit addressing, and can be used in standard PCI backplanes or with specialised low profile PCI brackets. These new boards have speeds up to 921.6kbps and 16554 UARTs with 16-byte FIFOs (16550 for SSCLP-100).
The boards leverage Quatech's PCI expertise to provide the same features found in its standard PCI boards in this new form-factor. As with the standard boards, Quatech's low profile boards strictly adhere to the PCI specification standards.
For example, the low profile boards use a universal connector compatible with both the 3.3 volt connector key required by the specification and the 5V connection used by older PC and thin client systems.
This means the boards can be used with current equipment, and will not need to be replaced as the system is upgraded. Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000 and OS/2 operating systems are supported. Interworld Electronics 03 9563 5011.
