ExpressCards are becoming common and popular in new laptop designs. ExpressCard slots available from Interworld Electronics are scaleable high speed bus interfaces that improve performance by supporting both the PCI Express and USB 2.0 standards in a single slot.
Quatech’s new performance series four port serial ExpressCards provide enhanced serial ports that are connected directly to the host systems PCI-Express bus. The performance series controllers support a single PCI-Express lane operating at up to 2.5 Gbps data rate.
In addition, a PCI-Express based design can directly use I/O address space and interrupts, thus emulating traditional built-in ports that can be done through USB-based designs. The new four port models include the QSPXP-100 four port RS-232 serial card and the QSPXP-200/300 four port RS-422/485 serial card. Dual port and single port RS232 and RS422/485 models are also available.
All performance series ExpressCards supports data rate speeds of up 921.6kbps, offering a steady data throughput. The performance series design offers flexibility with deeper FIFOs, auto half-duplexing transmit control on RS-422/485 cards and full compatibility with all Windows COM port settings.
While the performance series ExpressCards are I/O addressable, legacy DOS addresses are not supported. All Quatech ExpressCards are RoHS compliant. They support Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003 and Vista platforms.
