INTERNATIONAL Rectifier has released the PVY117 microelectronic relay (MER), increasing product reliability by replacing electromechanical and reed relays that have fragile moving parts and metallic contacts with more reliable solid-state relays that have no moving parts.

MERs have lower power consumption than electromechanical relays since they have lower actuation current requirements. The PVY117 MERs are much smaller than the electromechanical relays they are designed to replace.

They have bounce-free operation and their low on-state contact resistance and low off-state capacitance maximise performance in low voltage and high test frequency semiconductor automated test equipment (ATE) and other instrumentation circuits. Other applications include low voltage audio and RF switching.

The MERs increase operational life as the solid-state construction eliminates contacts that wear out. The PVY117 is housed in a subminiature, surface-mountable package for high-density applications.
