Intercad hold the second SolidWorks World Australia conference in Melbourne

Computer-aided design and manufacturing specialist, Intercad held the second SolidWorks World Australia conference in Melbourne on September 10.

Not only was the latest version of the software, SolidWorks 2008, launched at the conference, SolidWorks’ new education program for graduates, Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA), was also launched at the event.

The associate program arms new graduates with the practical CAD/CAM skills they need to be of immediate value to their employers. The program is aimed at students and graduates from university, technical, vocational and secondary educational institutions. Employers benefit from the program because they know the personnel they hire have specific skills, while students with certifications are immediately employable.

Also at the event:

Rainer Gawlick, vice president, worldwide marketing, SolidWorks, presented Intercad with an award celebrating the sale of the 10,000th SolidWorks licence in Australia and New Zealand.

Intercad invited delegates to display their skills using SolidWorks technology in two competitions: Model Mania tested delegates’ abilities to design an accurate model component in the shortest period of time; and the COSMOSWorks competition tested their design analysis abilities.

A variety of Australian products, which had been designed using SolidWorks, were on display in the product showcase.

Conference:

Scott Frayne, Intercad’s new owner and managing director hosted the second annual SolidWorks World Australia Conference. Nearly 300 delegates attended the event at which Frayne featured a snapshot of Australian SolidWorks success stories including Kimberly Kampers, Steinhoff Furniture, Ronstan International and Ceramic Fuel Cells.

Rainer Gawlick, vice president, worldwide marketing, SolidWorks, was a keynote speaker at the SolidWorks World Australia Conference, hosted by Intercad. Gawlick presented a roadmap for the future development of the software and talked about the latest version of the software, SolidWorks 2008, which was launched at the conference.

Product showcase:

At the SolidWorks World Australia Conference, hosted by CAD/CAM specialist Intercad, delegates viewed a showcase of products designed using SolidWorks including, far right, the Trymack Frogmouth Filter, self-cleaning rainwater filter.

Australian automotive products including a Motoz Motor Cross bike tyre and an ARB Bull Bar have been designed using SolidWorks CAD/CAM software. These and other Australian products were on display at the SolidWorks World Australia conference, held recently in Melbourne by CAD/CAM specialist Intercad.

Model Mania and COSMOSWorks competitions:

The Model Mania and COSMOSWorks competitions were held as part of the SolidWorks World Australia Conference, hosted by CAD/CAM specialist Intercad. Richard Newcombe, Mechanical Engineer, won the Model Mania competition.
