Developing a competitive racing yacht is a challenge, involving a high level of design complexity to be completed in a tight timeframe. Emirates Team New Zealand use SolidWorks to design components, structures and hardware. Emirates Team New Zealand use SolidWorks simulation from Intercad to analyse loaded appendages, such as the keel fin, which is 4m long and supports a weight of 20,000kg.
The combination of SolidWorks and SolidWorks simulation reduced the time and cost of building expensive prototypes of the keel and other key equipment. The graphical user interface is suitable for engineers, who can now quickly test new concepts to determine if they will make the yacht faster and stand up to the rigours of competitive racing.
Emirates Team New Zealand also use SolidWorks data management software to manage the voluminous design data their designers generate. SolidWorks data management software can ensure design accuracy and maintain tight revision and version control.
