Intalysis’ Dust in Mining Conference unveiled dust monitoring techniques

Intalysis  relates that the Dust and Noise in Mining Conference was well-attended this year. Following on from the success of last year, Intalysis attended and sponsored the Dust in Mining Conference in Perth on 24 and 25 June 2008.

Leading experts in the area of dust control revealed their key strategies for greater success in mining operations. Case studies were presented and insights into dust and noise solutions explored, as were regulator viewpoints and dust monitoring techniques.

Peter Furolo from Intalysis says, “It was great to catch up with some of existing customers who were attending, like BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto. The conference was also a good chance to meet with others in the industry looking for dust mitigation solutions.”

Intalysis had attended the conference to promote their CSIRO developed LFM (Low Frequency Microwave) moisture analyser which is a key component in many of their client’s dust control strategies. As Peter explains, “The difference between a dust issue and a problem with mud on the conveyor is all down to moisture content. The LFM allows accurate online determination of the moisture content of the material on the conveyor. This information is used to carefully control water addition until the dust is extinguished without adding too much water which would result in downstream handling problems like blocked screens or chutes.”

The LFM moisture analyser is available in a number of models and arrays of antenna to suit a wide variety of materials including coal, iron ore, bauxite, lead, zinc, copper, nickel, gold and platinum in mines, processing plants and ports.
