Commercial production has commenced on a brand new cellulose film manufacturing line at Innovia Films ’ Wigton site in the UK. The investment for this new machine was agreed two years ago and will replace two existing production lines which have been in operation since the late 1940s. The project, which was predominantly designed, built and project managed in-house, was completed on time and on budget.
The new machine will become Innovia Films’ highest output line. This equipment will allow the manufacture of some faster grades and will consistently improve quality on others. Substantial environmental benefits and efficiencies were an integral part of the innovative design and will lower Innovia Films’ carbon footprint.
According to Alexander van't Riet, Global Sales and Marketing Director, Innovia Films, the successful completion of this major project is testimony to Innovia Films’ ongoing commitment to cellulose film, a reflection of the dedication and skills of the highly experienced engineering team and a clear demonstration of the belief and desire to continue to bring further developments in cellulose technology to the customers.
The first NatureFlex films were launched in 2003, and have, since then, been awarded 13 major packaging accolades. A recent addition to the cellulose based films range includes the biodegradable, compostable and high barrier, NatureFlex NK product which is suitable for use in a wide range of applications, in particular dried foods and snacks.
