NatureFlex NVS, a compostable, cellulose-based material from Innovia Films is helping spread the message of healthy eating in Italian schools.
The EU funded ‘Frutta nelle Scuole’ (School Fruit Scheme) ensures children aged 6-11 years old are given individually wrapped portions of fresh organic fruit to enjoy during the school day.
The transparent NatureFlex NVS packaging film used in this application is converted and sold to packers by Italian company, CORAPACK Srl, founded by Massimo Radice. Corapack has many years of experience in perforating and printing various flexible films.
According to Fabrizio Radice, Sales Manager, Corapack, NatureFlex NVS is the ideal choice to flow-wrap the fruit as it not only protects the product inside due to its semi-permeability to moisture, but also provides good machinability and printability, ensuring a smart pack appearance.
Giorgio Berton, TS&D Specialist, Innovia Films comments that the ‘Frutta nelle Scuole’ project encourages school children to eat fresh organic fruit, which stays in premium condition thanks to NatureFlex film.
Being compostable and made from renewable resources, the film has excellent environmental attributes.
Processed from wood sourced from managed plantations operating on good forestry principals (FSC or equivalent), NatureFlex film is certified compostable in both home and industrial composting environments and is also suitable for anaerobic digestion.
NatureFlex NVS compostable film has been specifically formulated to offer improved stiffness under chill cabinet conditions as well as a controlled level of moisture permeability with a heat-sealable conversion-friendly coating on both sides.
Key benefits of NatureFlex compostable packaging film:
- Inherent dead fold and anti-static properties help in packing and converting
- High gloss and transparency
- Resistance to grease and oil
- Good barrier to gases, aromas and mineral oils
- Wide heat-seal range
- Suitable for anaerobic digestion
