SURFACE Specialties UCB is expanding its range of high performance packaging films for fresh produce.
PropaFresh PFAM is the company's latest development specifically for this market. The high gloss biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film is supplied with integral anti-mist properties.
Anti-mist is an essential criteria when packing salad leaves and some prepared vegetables as it prevents condensation building up in the pack which detracts from its visual appeal.
PropaFresh PFAM is available in 30 and 35 micron thickness, is heat scalable on both sides, with an external print side and an internal anti-mist side, and offers excellent machine performance (HFFS and VFFS).
The new film is the first of a planned range extension by Surface Specialties UCB's research and development teams. The company, formerly named UCB Films, is also developing a range of breathable BOPP films for fruits and vegetables.
These unique films will allow gas exchange without the need for perforating the pack, maintaining a natural modified internal atmosphere. They will extend shelf life due to the improved 02 and C02 exchange.
The company's range of specialty films for fresh produce packaging also includes Propafilm RK+, a two side coated high barrier anti-mist film which has recently been released in a 50 micron thickness for heavy produce and large catering size packs.
