The principle behind the Microstar 1 is the Doppler Effect where a comparison of the frequencies of the projected beam with the returning beam that has been reflected from the surface determines the speed. The Microstar 1 transmits two radar beams at 45º angles allowing for pitch angle error corrections providing optimum accuracy.

- Speed accuracy: <1% of test value, <0.5 km/h under 50 kph (each due to integration time of 200 ms)
