Immersive Technologies  introduced their new, next generation PRO3 advanced equipment simulator at the 2010 Mining Forum held in Tucson, Arizona, USA.

Immersive Technologies is the world's leading supplier of operator training simulators for surface and underground mining equipment.

The 2010 Mining Forum is Caterpillar's premier customer and dealer event held at their Tinaja Hills Demonstration and Learning Center in Tucson. The 2-week event delivered a range of learning sessions together with new product demonstrations to invited customers from around the world.

The Mining Forum also provided Immersive Technologies an ideal opportunity to showcase their new PRO3 advanced equipment simulator to Caterpillar's customers and dealers.

The latest surface mining Conversion Kit for the Cat 793F mining truck was also unveiled at the event.

When used in conjunction with the PRO3's advanced display and feedback systems, the conversion kit provides equipment operators with the highest level of simulation realism and learning transfer available in the mining industry.

As part of an exclusive licensing and technical information agreement signed between Caterpillar and Immersive Technologies in 2004 and renewed in 2009, Caterpillar provides Immersive Technologies with exclusive access to its proprietary machine technical information necessary to accurately simulate Caterpillar's equipment in an advanced simulator.

As part of the agreement Caterpillar also provides Immersive Technologies access to key engineering staff, which together with the technical information was pivotal in accurately simulating Caterpillar's new 793F mining trucks on the PRO3 simulator.

Wayde Salfinger, Chief Technology Officer for Immersive Technologies says that the new 793F haul truck has advanced systems for operator feedback. He attributes the level of accuracy in the 793F truck simulation system to the partnership between the two companies.

He adds that the accuracy ensures that the simulator training delivers valuable outcomes expected by customers.

Salfinger said that Caterpillar also developed custom software to support the integration of simulation technology from Immersive Technologies.

Feedback on the PRO3 simulator and the 793F Conversion Kit was extremely positive and many delegates were able to compare hands-on the real Cat 793F mining truck to the simulated version simultaneously.

Immersive Technologies' Vice President - North America, Cory Cook says that Caterpillar's ongoing support and commitment to advanced simulation training highlights the results being achieved by mines while utilising Immersive simulators to make sustainable changes within the mining industry.
