Autodesk’s 2D design and engineering software will soon be available for Mac OS.

Autodesk has announced that it will release a version of AutoCAD 2011 for Mac systems. The software was previously only available on the Windows platform and will now run natively on Mac OS X.

Autodesk also announced that the new Mac version of AutoCAD would be accompanied by the AutoCAD WS mobile application, a new app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch that will let users edit and share their AutoCAD designs remotely.

Amar Hanspal, senior vice president, Autodesk Platform Solutions and Emerging Business says that the release of AutoCAD for Mac marks the return of professional design and engineering software to the Mac platform and an important convergence of power and design.

He adds that over 5000 customers have helped develop the design software product through their beta program and they are delighted to have the choice of a native Mac version of AutoCAD.

According to Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, AutoCAD for Mac is the perfect combination for millions of design and engineering professionals.

He says that the AutoCAD WS app is a mobile version of industry-leading design software for some of the world’s most innovative mobile devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

AutoCAD for Mac will be available from IMAGINiT Technologies early in 2011.
