IDM Instruments have manufactured the thickness gauge for high loft products to meet the demands of Nonwoven customers’ requirements of a thickness gauge meeting the ASTM test standard. The thickness gauge for high loft products measures the thickness of high loft nonwoven material by means of a digital readout.
Thickness is determined by observing the linear distance that a moveable plane is displaced from a parallel surface by the specimen, while under a specified pressure. The unit is specially designed to allow samples of up to 200mm in height to be tested, with the thickness gauge having an accuracy of 0.1mm.
The international standard calls for a mass to be applied onto the presser foot during testing to give an accurate thickness readout. As such, a load cell has been fitted inside the base plate electrical controls, to give a defined load reading.
With extensive research and development undertaken, IDM Instruments integrated a design that allowed parallelism of the presser foot when lowered with the adjustment handle onto the base plate to obtain measurements. The thickness gauge operates trouble-free, yet offers accurate measurement of thickness when applied to nonwoven material, as called for by industry.
