IDM Instruments has released a digital air permeability tester, designed in accordance with the ASTM D737 standard.
It measures the air permeability of various textile fabrics. Air permeability is described as the rate of air flow passing perpendicularly through a known area under a prescribed air pressure differential between the two surfaces of a material. From this air flow rate, the air permeability of a fabric is obtained. The air flow rate panel meter gives the user a digital read out of the air flow rate, while the Pa panel meter measures and displays differential pressure in Pascals.
Conducting a test is quick and simple, with minimal operator handling. Using the flow speed control knob, the operator sets the air flow speed until the desired unit is reached on the Pa panel meter. Once meter is set, results are obtained automatically by taking a reading from the air flow rate panel meter. The air permeability tester method covers woven fabrics, non-woven fabrics, air bag fabrics, blankets, napped fabrics, knitted fabrics, layered fabrics as well as pile fabrics.
