S. HIMMELSTEIN, represented by Hylec Controls has brought out a hollow, NEMA C-Face, reaction torquemeter.
It is typically mounted between a motor and its load, with either motor or load being foot mounted. The device whose torque is being sensed must have a mounting meeting NEMA C-Face standards or have a suitable adaptor.
Installation is simple and cheap. The large opening in the centre of the torquemeter makes it easy to accommodate the shaft coupling between the two devices in the centre of the torquemeter, saving space and mounting complexity.
Instead of having to mount three separate units with two couplings between them, the three units can be rigidly bolted together, while one simple coupling transmits torque through the hollow centre of the torquemeter.
The torquemeter can sense motor or load torque and its calibration is NIST traceable. It handles 500% overloads and has very high stiffness and very low torsional deflection.
There are no bearings, rotating parts or slip rings, helping to ensure a long, maintenance-free life. It is capable of full bi-directional operation and works from 0V to ±10V or 4-20mA outputs.
Models are available for NEMA motor frame sizes from 56C to 286TC and torque capacities from 5.65Nm to 2260Nm.
