The new VRT32 rotary telemetry system from Caesar DataSystems, and available from Hylec Controls , has now been released after completing the 8000km of testing on the German high speed ICE train operated by DB.
Integrated signal conditioning and a precision angle encoder enable the simultaneous measurement of up to 30 full-bridge strain gauge signals and angular position.
Power is transmitted to the rotor by non contacting inductive transfer allowing maintenance free, continuous operation. High-speed digital data are transmitted through optical cable to the decoder rack, which can be sited up to 75m away.
The decoder rack can be expanded to support up to four 32-channel rotor units. The VRT32 rotary telemetry system is designed for harsh shock and vibration environment found in rail and heavy engineering applications.
Directly mounted on railway wheels, the VRT32 rotary telemetry system can be used for demanding, dynamic applications such as measuring rail contact forces, durability and fatigue, braking and suspension development, and rail track quality.
Complete acquisition systems with additional inputs such as speed, acceleration and GPS position can be supplied with measurement and analysis software.
