Orica Water, a user of Gorman-Rupp VS4 wastewater pumps has relayed positive feedback on their performance during the massive Queensland rains in January 2013.
The Gorman-Rupp VS4 is a range of engine-driven waste water pumps capable of handling solids and stringy materials. Installed at the Orica Water Treatment Facility in Yarwun, Queensland in November 2012, the pumping unit pumps from a stormwater catchment approximately 6.5 metres deep, into a treatment system before discharging offsite.
The wastewater pump pumps 35 litres per second @ 63.1 metres head. The unit was recommended for this application by Dowdens for its high performance, high head and ability to handle solids.
The pump’s capabilities were challenged in January 2013 with the extreme weather conditions and massive rainfall in the area. The customer was impressed with the pump’s ability to cope with the huge quantities of stormwater, and also appreciated the efficiency of the other two Gorman-Rupp electric drive U6 units installed at the water treatment facility.
The three Gorman-Rupp wastewater pumps installed at the treatment facility were able to withstand the floods while maintaining their performance, resulting in rapid draining of the excess water.
