Biodegradable fluids are great for the environment, but tough on hoses. They seep through ordinary hose tubes, causing cover blisters and sweat. The result is premature and expensive hose failures.
Gates has introduced new EnviroFluid spiral-wire hose. Like Gates industry proven nitrile tube stock that is used in all our wire-braid hose, it is specially designed to handle biodegradable hydraulic fluids and other aggressive oils like synthetic esters, polyglycols and vegetable oils.
Gates introduced EnviroFluid hydraulic hose to the market six years ago. We have finalised the consolidation of the stocked line items of our high-pressure spiral wire hose line to the EnviroFluid construction.
The speciality of EnviroFluid spiral hose is the Nitrile tube. Traditionally spiral-wire reinforced hoses have a Neoprene tube, which is often the only option to ensure coupling sealing at high pressures and temperatures.
However, as the compatibility of neoprene with oil is not optimal, some of the more aggressive oils, especially the biodegradable oils, can permeate through the tube and through the various friction layers between the reinforcement layers.
This effect increases with low viscosity oils, high temperatures or when using viscosity improving additives.
Eventually, the oil collects under the cover causing blisters or permeates through the cover causing visible oil traces (sweating).
The EnviroFluid spiral hose is available from Hunter Valley Hydraulink.
