Henrob Self-Pierce rivets and studs (HSPR) enjoy an enviable reputation around the world for joining of light guage metals used for structural applications.

Henrob self-pierce riveting (HSPR) is a unique assembly process in which a semi-tubular rivet is driven through the layers of material to be joined.

The rivet then flares out under the influence of a special die, forming a strong tight joint between the layers of material.

What makes the HSPR process unique is that, unlike normal riveting, no hole is required in the material before the rivet is inserted.

The rivets are inserted using specially designed rivet setters, setup as mobile manual pedestal machine. More sophisticated electric servo units for robotic production are also available. All systems are fitted with automatic rivet feed .

Differentiating Features

HSPR offers numerous advantages over the more traditional joining techniques used in the construction, white goods, automotive and other manufacturing industries.

Flexible manufacturing:
  • Joins similar or mixed materials including plastic.
  • Joins coated & galvanised materials.
  • Can be used with adhesives or sealants.
  • 2, 3 & 4 thickness joints possible.
  • Joins up to 6mm total thickness in steel.
  • Joins up to 10mm total thickness in aluminium.
  • Sets a rivet every 2 seconds day after day, year after year.
  • Manual or automated operation.
Improved quality:
  • High static strength.
  • Excellent fatigue life.
  • Consistent joint properties.
  • Good corrosion resistance.
  • Strong pull up between sheets.
  • Waterproof joints possible.
  • No heat affected zone.
Reduced costs:
  • Fully automatic rivet setting at the press of a button
  • Rapid cycle times.
  • Fewer fasteners due to higher strength
  • Reduced secondary operations.
  • Reduced waste.
  • Fewer services required.
  • Low maintenance.
  • Simple operator training.
Improved environment:
  • Low noise process (<80dBa typical).
  • No sparks or fumes given off.
  • No swarf or mandrels to dispose of.
  • No cooling water or extraction needed.
  • No tool vibration or shock loading.
